Brisbane Shockwave Treatment
Extra Corporeal Shockwave Treatment
Extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT) is a non-invasive procedure used for treating a number of orthopaedic conditions. The procedure is widely used in other states throughout Australia, and overseas, and is also available in Queensland at QLS – Brisbane Private Hospital.
ESWT offers significant benefits to patients since:
- Treatment times are short.
- No anaesthetic or needles required.
- Side effects are minimal.
- Often negates the need for surgery.
We treat a wide range of conditions, some with associated calcium deposits due to persisting inflammation, some are inflammatory in nature only. e.g plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, trochanteric bursitis.
We also treat many other conditions (see our list of Conditions above).
Your treatment is not secondary to or in conjunction with any other treatments. It is a dedicated shockwave treatment done with ultrasound visualisation.
We aim to treat the cause of your pain so you can get back to normal daily activities. We continue to get regular referrals from a growing base of doctors, physios and podiatrists, so if you need our services talk to our health professionals.
For some areas you will not need a referral.
Your initial visit to our Brisbane clinic will include a detailed consultation to explain in more detail how the treatment works and what to expect over the coming weeks, then we will proceed with your first treatment the same day, so allow about 45mins for your first treatment session (assuming you are only having 1 area treated) and each session after that should take around 30mins per area treated.
Most of your improvement will occur over a period of weeks post treatment so we will follow up with you on a regular basis by phone to assess how you are progressing.
If you have been referred to us by a doctor or Allied health professional we will then send a written report.
We have 3 different Shockwave systems to tailor your treatment. Many tendons sit at different depths. Using ULTRASOUND guidance for visualisation allows us to calculate that exact depth and use the optimum piece of equipment for your treatment.
We use FOCUSED and RADIAL shockwave systems. For most tendon applications FOCUSED is the preferred method and is very accurate in its delivery.
For other conditions RADIAL may be more suitable eg. Lymphoedema, carpal tunnel syndrome.
